Dave Smith and John Lewis — Two Pianos
The main work will be Con­tin­u­um, an extend­ed piece of ear­ly min­i­mal­ism by the per­form­ers Smith and Lewis, receiv­ing its first per­for­mance since 1977. In addi­tion we will hear Stockhausen’s Klavier­stuck I, The Alcotts by Charles Ives, three pieces by John Lewis: Mer­cury (1st per­for­mance), Man­gane­se and Mag­ne­sium, and Dave Smith’s Three Ker­ala Song Arrange­ments.

From Barcelona via Paris, Argen­tini­an pianist Lean­dro Avalle arrives in Lon­don to intro­duce and per­form a pro­gram­me of pre­ludes by com­posers of dif­fer­ent peri­ods includ­ing Bach, Chopin, Debussy, Scri­abin, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Ginastera. Veles Ensem­ble — Cham­ber Works
The recent­ly found­ed Veles Ensem­ble, con­sist­ing of Tadashi Imai (piano), Dmitri Khakhamov (vio­lin), Katya Lazare­va (vio­la) and Tomas Korszyn­ski (cel­lo) present a pro­gram of cham­ber music for var­i­ous instru­men­tal com­bi­na­tions, start­ing with Beethoven’s String Trio in C minor Op.9 No.3, one of the most ele­gant and affect­ing of his ear­lier works, con­tin­u­ing with the Con­cert-Piece for Vio­la and Piano by Enes­cu, Bartok’s Rhap­sody No.1 for Vio­lin and Piano and con­clud­ing with Brahms’ mag­nif­i­cent Piano Quar­tet in G minor Op.25.

Antho­ny Green — Piano Recital
The pre­mière of Antho­ny Green’s own Piano Sonata No.5 (Homage to John Cow­per Powys) is the main work in his recital tonight, pre­ced­ed by Beethoven’s Sonata in F Op.54 and con­clud­ing with the cel­e­brat­ed Sonata in A D.959 by Schu­bert. The nov­els of John Cow­per Powys (1872–1963) have been a point of ref­er­ence for many of Green’s com­po­si­tions, includ­ing the sym­pho­ny based on loca­tions from the nov­els from which he per­formed piano tran­scrip­tions here in 2015.

Euge­nia Rus­sell and Klim­is Voskidis — Music for Cel­lo and Piano by Mendelssohn and Oth­ers
A Sun­day evening per­for­mance by Euge­nia Rus­sell (vio­lon­cel­lo) and Klim­is Voskidis (piano) fea­tur­ing as the main work Mendelssohn’s Cel­lo Sonata No.1 in Bb, Op.45, and includ­ing his Song With­out Words for cel­lo, Sibelius’ Valse Tris­te, one of Vivaldi’s cel­lo sonatas and oth­er pieces by Bach, Chopin, Liszt (with help from Paganini) and Grieg.

Liv­ing Stones CD Launch — Bri­an Inglis
Bri­an Inglis presents a short recital cel­e­brat­ing the launch of Liv­ing Stones, an album of his piano music on the Sar­gas­so con­tem­po­rary music label. Antoinet­te Kirk­wood — Music for Piano and Cel­lo
Gem­ma Con­nor (cel­lo) and Thomas Ang (piano) play music by Antoinet­te Kirk­wood who died in 2014. Her charm­ing music has been neglect­ed, but is now being brought into print by Bardic Press and being redis­cov­ered by lis­ten­ers. Thomas Ang will play Six Inter­mezzi for piano, and accom­pa­nies Gem­ma Con­nor in a per­for­mance of the Cel­lo Sonata.
Admis­sion: free, all wel­come.

Sun­day 9th July 2017, 4.00pm
Music and Mag­ic — Anna Pao­la and Friends
An eclec­tic mix of musi­cal tal­ent brought togeth­er in sup­port of the Roy­al Mars­den Can­cer Char­i­ty by Anna Pao­la, who will play some of the enchant­i­ng piano music of Gian Piero Rever­beri, and with some mag­ic thrown in by clar­inetist Paul White­stone.
